After months of preparation, and more than a few spanners thrown into the works, we’re thrilled to say that the first leg of our 2021 National Championships – held in WA, SA and QLD at the end of August – has been a roaring success.
Our flagship event, held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC), and co-located with the SkillsWest Career and Employment Expo and National Skills Week, saw over 10,000 visitors over the three days, while our satellite events gave our hard-working competitors in Queensland an opportunity to finally show of their skills.
For the first time ever, we livestreamed the full three days of our competitions from PCEC on both our website and on Facebook, allowing people to tune in and support our competitors from anywhere in the world. We’ll be uploading more and more videos and photos from the competitions over the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our social media channels.
Our Queensland and South Australia competitions were held across a number of venues – including multiple TAFE QLD and TAFE SA campuses, the Axalta Refinish Training Centre and Axial Training to allow our entire roster of QLD and SA competitors to put their skills to the test.
While our QLD and SA competitors didn’t have the audience that their WA compatriots had, all reports indicate that the competition was no less fierce!
So, with border restrictions and lockdowns occurring across Australia, how do you make an event like the National Championships as big as it deserves to be? Well, with a combination of in-person events, dedicated livestreams, social media activity and effective PR, we managed to get this year’s WorldSkills Australia National Championships in front of a huge number of people.
As we begin to release content from the events over the next few weeks, we’re looking forward to getting our message in front of even more people.
Once again, the WorldSkills Australia National Championships would not have been possible without the generous support from our event partners, gold partners and industry partners.
