Showcars Melbourne back for it’s tenth year

On Sunday 16th February 2025, Moonee Valley Racecourse will once again become the epicentre of horsepower as it hosts one of Melbourne’s premier automotive events.

For the tenth consecutive time, Melbourne’s Moonee Valley Racecourse is set to welcome the iconic Showcars Melbourne PPG Showdown.

According to event organiser, Elvis (Al) Barbieri, the location is the perfect place to host the event.

“A decade ago, we took a risk by moving to such a large venue but the ongoing support from the general public and the vehicle show car communities has seen the event go from strength to strength,” Barbieri says.

“Today, we take up pretty much the whole of the massive Moonee Valley Racecourse layout with around 180 elite level vehicles on display indoors and a further 600 plus spread around the spacious outdoor lawns and gardens.”

“Whether you are into hot rods, bikes, street machines, muscle cars or classic, there is something there to grab your attention, including a selection of recently unveiled, high end show cars.”

“For the vehicles on display, there are more than 70 awards on offer, including the coveted People’s Choice Award. These days, more than anything, the Showcars Melbourne PPG Showdown has been designed as a great event for the whole family.”

“The cost for public entry is very reasonable, there is free parking onsite, in the middle of the racecourse, where it’s a short walk to the exhibits and there are kid’s activities, food, drink and a variety of entertainment throughout the day.”

PPG and Showcars Melbourne

Barbieri outlines how industry support is one of the key factors in continually growing the event, including long-term major sponsor, PPG.

“PPG has been a strong partner of the Showcars Melbourne PPG Showdown over a long period and having such a well-known and respected brand name onboard has really helped us showcase the very best event we can each and every year,” Barbieri says.

PPG’s close connections to the custom vehicle community are also on show at the onsite PPG stand which is part of the trade fair. This includes the almost unlimited array of dazzling custom finishes under PPG’s VIBRANCE COLLECTION® banner, the latest in precision German engineered spray equipment from SATA and market leading abrasives and polishing technologies from MIRKA.

The ability to chat one-on-one with a PPG expert makes this the perfect place to get the low down on what you need to take your own dream project to the next level. There is even the opportunity to walk away with a some very cool PPG merchandise.
