PPG notches up more recognition for sustainability push

PPG has gained more sustainability recognition, and has been named in Newsweek magazine’s America’s Greenest Companies list for 2025.

The Newsweek magazine’s America’s Greenest Companies list recognises the top 500 private and public US companies that are committed to reducing their environmental impact in key areas, including greenhouse gas emissions, water management, and waste reduction.

To ensure the highest standards, only companies that meet the European Union’s stringent sustainability criteria (considered the most advanced globally) were eligible for consideration. Each company was evaluated and scored on more than 25 parameters, including sustainability data disclosure and commitments.

PPG Vice President, Global Sustainability, Peter Votruba-Drzal, highlighted PPG’s pride in integrating sustainability into their business strategy.

“With our customers, we use it as a driver to accelerate growth with sustainably advantaged products* and productivity innovations. In our own operations, we use it as a catalyst to improve productivity through energy efficiency, waste minimisation, and water reduction,” Votruba-Drzal says.

In 2023, PPG reported strong progress against its 2030 sustainability targets

  • 45 per cent of process waste sent to reuse, recycle, and recovery
  • 13 per cent reduction in water intensity at priority sites
  • 10 per cent reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions
  • 12 per cent reduction in scope 3 Green House Gas emissions
  • 97 per cent of key suppliers assessed to sustainability and social responsibility criteria
