Mobility goes ‘live’ with special insight from the MTA NSW

How repairers can safely tackle the steady rise and rise of EVs is just one idea in focus at a leading expo on mobility.

Mobility Live 2025 will take place this week in Sydney and the Motor Traders’ Association of New South Wales (MTA NSW) will take a key  role in ensuring repairers and the aftermarket are ready as Australia accelerates towards a zero-emission future.

The MTA is a gold sponsor of the two-day event on 15–16 October at the ICC Sydney  and plans showcase its extensive work in EV skills development, safety standards, and workforce capability.

The MTA NSW’s exhibit will feature a live EV training showcase, with a working ‘Powerwall’ simulation, advanced EV and hybrid safety demonstrations, and the BYD Sealion 6 electric vehicle, which showcases the latest technology in electric vehicles.

This will be a great opportunity for visitors to the expo to see the practical real-world training the MTA NSW offers to the aftermarket automotive industry through its training academy.

MTA NSW’s Registered Training Organisation offer Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set via the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Training. AURSS00064 as a key step for repairers to upskill for the EV transition.

“Our focus is on developing the workforce capability required for a safe and successful transition to electric vehicles,” said Stavros Yallouridis, CEO of MTA NSW.

“This is about ensuring technicians are equipped with the right knowledge, tools, and confidence to work safely and effectively with high-voltage systems, while supporting consumer confidence and the broader uptake of EVs in New South Wales.”

Collin Jennings, Head of Government Relations and Advocacy at MTA NSW, will also join leaders from the automotive and policy sectors on a panel to discuss how training, licensing, and industry standards must evolve in tandem with rapid EV adoption.

“The automotive sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in a century,” says Mr Jennings.

“MTA NSW has played a key role in shaping the forthcoming EV licence framework for NSW, ensuring that only appropriately trained technicians are authorised to work on high-voltage vehicles. This marks an important step towards improving safety, professionalism, and workforce readiness across the state.”

This initiative supports the NSW Government’s net-zero objectives by embedding capability-building into the transition, while aligning industry practice with emerging national standards.
