Meguiar’s MotorEx 2022 – back and stronger than ever!

It was clear from the outset that this year was going to be special, as the queues on arrival were enough to warm the cockles of any enthusiast’s heart. It’s been along wait but as always MotorEx provided something for everyone who ventured out to the Melbourne Showgrounds last weekend.

All the major features that make this such a great event were back, including: Muscle Car Marvels, 3M Inauguration, Street Elite Showcase, Rare Spares Real Street, Drift Cadet Driftworld, Milwaukee Performance Garage and of course Meguiar’s Superstars.

One of the big attractions is always the Meguiar’s Superstars which recognises and rewards the supreme craftsmanship and build quality found at the absolute top level of customisation. Competitors must pre-qualify at one of the lead-up events to become a finalist as only the very best vehicles are accepted to compete. It was clear the competition would be fierce this time around.

Muscle Car Marvel is also a real crowd pleaser with the stunning array of classic Australian and American muscle cars and has been part of MotorEx since it all began in 2001. This year’s display showcased some awesome GT Falcons, XU1 Toranas, Corvettes, race-bred Mustangs, Camaros and really wild Aussie Chargers. If ever an imitative was custom-made for the Australian audience, this is it!

We ran into an old friend, Norton Ambassador Declan McKearney, from Resto’s and Rods Garage and of course the great TV show, Resto my Ride. McKearney was offering the opportunity to win the fantastic 1966 Ford Mustang that was completed during season one of Resto my Ride. I couldn’t resist entering myself.

Drift Cadet Driftworld once again displayed amazing skill and control on the drifting track, and it was phenomenal just to see what can be achieved on the track when you combine the technology in the cars and elite driving skills. Once again, the adrenaline junkies eagerly awaited their turn to experience it all from the passenger seat.

Owen Webb, our resident custom aficionado summed it all up: “I never ceased to be amazed by the support we get here in Melbourne. It’s so great to be back and catch up with so many car enthusiasts. It’s what makes Meguiars MotorEx a real highlight of the custom car calendar.”
