Leading industry groups join Waste Motive

NCR Waste Motive

Waste Motive has continued to move at pace, notwithstanding the COVID-19 disruption, as the initiative secured the support of several of the automotive industry’s leading groups, such as Allianz, RACQ, MTAQ and Capricorn to name but a few. Founded by Mario Dimovski and led by Planet Ark, Australia’s most trusted environmental organisation, Waste Motive will establish a better way to manage the industry’s plastic waste and achieve the goal of ZERO automotive plastic waste to landfill.

The submission for Waste Motive has now been presented to government through the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund with a result expected in November 2020. The grant, if successful will provide essential funding to commence the program in 2021, to initially define and develop Waste Motive, a national automobile plastics stewardship program.

“The support gained in such a short time has been overwhelming, as automotive plastic waste becomes a key issue for the industry. Going forward we can come together and work towards a unified outcome, rather than leaving it to individuals,” said Dimovski. “I have set the platform, gained the support of key stakeholders and continue to receive interest from OEMs and insurance groups wanting to join the program, subject to internal governance, once it commences in early 2021.”

Dimovski anticipates a positive outcome from the government submission which will result in Planet Ark taking control, driving Waste Motive and working with the industry to establish better ways to manage automotive plastic waste”
