For auto business owner Chris Hartley, it was all about his dream bike and it was an opportunity he could not pass up.

When Chris Hartley—who owns Autoline Service Centre in Briar Hill in Victoria’s Diamond Valley region—dropped $11,000 on a limited-edition Yamaha YZ250 motorcycle, it was definitely a heart purchase, not a head purchase.
“My mate who owns the motorcycle shop across the road knows a guy that runs a Yamaha dealership, and he rang me while I was at work and just said he could get these limited-edition motorbikes at a really good price if I wanted one,” Chris said.
“I said, ‘Oh yeah, put my name down’.”
Chris is a keen dirt bike rider. He already owns a 2008 model YZ250, which he takes out into the bush every other weekend for a bit a fun. But while his heart made the decision to “update” his bike in the moment, his head was quickly dealing with the consequences.
“I was a bit worried about dipping into the savings to pay for it, and I was a bit worried about how I was going to get this over with the wife,” he said.
“Then within half an hour, Tony, my rep from Capricorn, rang me and said, ‘We’ve changed the rules, and you can spend your Rewards Points on pretty much whatever you want.’ I said, ‘Dang, that’s it!’ It was as easy at that.”
In February this year, Capricorn launched an exciting addition to their Member Rewards program called Rewards+. It gives Members the opportunity to use their reward points to buy (almost) anything they want.
Whereas before you could only spend Rewards Points on products available on the platform, Rewards+ allows you to purchase items that aren’t, as long as they’re tangible products (not services or travel), worth more than $5000, and you have the full value of the item in points at the time of submitting the redemption request.
Capricorn Rewards is already one of the country’s most generous rewards schemes and Rewards+ makes it even more generous. They have created Rewards+ specifically to encourage Members to use their Rewards Points so they get the benefit from them.
Chris has been with Capricorn for 11 years and, like many Members, he had let his points build up over time, simply because he hadn’t got around to using them.
He encouraged other Members to check their points.
“It’s a no-brainer,” he said. “Capricorn were really easy to deal with—the whole transaction, everything, it just happened really easily.”
Chris has gone from being worried the YZ250 was a “not exactly essential” purchase that was going to bite into the family savings to discovering he could get his new toy without paying a single cent.
Using Rewards+ is as easy as getting a sales invoice for an eligible item addressed to 212F, submitting the invoice via the Rewards+ platform, waiting for approval from Capricorn, and then getting your confirmation back from the supplier of when to collect it.
