Elite repair talent recognised as finalists

One of NSW leading industry training providers is celebrating the talent it’s developing in the repair industry with a duo of candidates reaching the top category.

Spray painter Kynan Bonanno has been announced in the Apprentice of the Year category.

Last month Bonanno joined the elite of the trade when he took part in a WorldSkills preparation event in Melbourne that will prepare them for the world competition in France in September.

Electric vehicle trainer Anthony Bonanno has also been named as a finalist in for Trainer of the Year category.

MTA NSW also revealed it has been named as one of three finalists for the 2024 NSW Training Awards in the Large Training Provider category in recognition recognised for its commitment to innovative training services and personalised approach to education.

The NSW Large Training Provider of the Year Award recognises a registered training organisation (RTO) that offers a wide range of training services and demonstrates excellence in all aspects of vocational education and training.

MTA NSW CEO Stavros Yallouridi says the recognition reflected the organisations innovative approach to meet the emerging needs of the industry and help fill the skills gap.

“As an RTO committed to offering innovative, personalised training opportunities, MTA NSW is honoured to be a finalist in the Large Training Provider category at this year’s NSW Training Awards.”

“We are passionate about creating a thriving automotive industry in NSW and promoting the VET sector. We are proud to be recognised as a leading training organisation selected from a broad field of impressive applicants across all trades.”

The MTA has expanded the number of trainers from 20 in 2019 to having 45 trainers on staff today and invested over $12m in the delivery of training, facilities and technologies, he says.

“These commitments have seen continued improvement for student satisfaction, with a steady increase in enrolments over the years. In 2023, the organisation commenced training for 21 per cent more students than in 2022 and is on track to continue growing this number.

“The industry association also remains dedicated to providing tailored training and education, providing each student with one-on-one mentorship programs and access to a Jobs Board to connect future apprentices with employment opportunities in the automotive industry.

MTA NSW Ian Price, General Manager of Training, says the finalists highlight the exceptional quality of training provided by the organisation.

“Our philosophy of tailoring training for individual needs alongside the integration of real-world application sets our students up for success,” he says.

“Supporting our students to achieve the best possible outcomes is central to what we do. This not only enriches their experience but also ensures that our graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the industry.”

The winners of the 2024 NSW Training Awards will be announced at a presentation event on Friday 13 September 2024 at Sydney Town Hall.
