SIGNAL YELLOW 1 of 14 AUST DEL - RALLY PEDIGREE
With the 1974 introduction of the G-Series 911, featuring 5mph safety bumpers a new era of 911 was started, with the new, iconic silhouette lasting for 15 years. Road-going 911s were available in three distinct specifications, the Base 911 replacing the 911T, the 911S replacing the 911E and the top spec Carrera replacing the 911 RS Touring.
Only built for two model years (1974 & 1975), just 1,554 MFI Carrera Coupes were built, featuring the 911/83 RS-Spec Mechanical Fuel Injection Flat Six first seen in the legendary 1973 911 Carrera RS and RSR, producing 210bhp, a 40% power increase compared to the standard 911! Due to strict emission control standards the MFI Specification was not offered in the US market, making the 2.7 MFI Carrera Coupe on near rarity parity with the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS, of which it shared its mechanical package.
This Carrera is one of just 14 delivered new to Australia! Purchased new by Mr A.Nosworthy in July 1974 from Hamiltons of South Yarra, the Porsche was finished in Signal Yellow, a colour retired in 1973, with blue/black leatherette trim and was factory optioned with forged alloy Fuchs wheels, an electric sun roof, rear ducktail spoiler and Carrera side lettering. The MFI Carrera was then sold in June 1995 to Mr G.Taylor, just the second owner, who has retained the Coupe ever since.
This Carrera has been driven as originally intended, with its CAMS logbook, dated January 1996 showing 2.7 MFI ready for its first Tarmac Rally, having now competed in 26 Targa Tasmanias as well as Classic Adelaide, Rally Tasmania, Targa Wrest Point, Mt Buller Sprint and Targa High Country, a truly impressive feat!
The engine capacity has been increased to 2.8 litres providing a claimed extra 30 BHP, and the crank case has been replaced with a factory supplied, new, blank, 2.7 magnesium case, stamped with the original engine number.
This 74 Carrera is supported by CAMS log books, factory books and invoice history from 1995 to current. This spectacular Porsche is ready for its next custodian, and adventure!
