Description

1984 Pontiac Trans Am Recaro Limited Edition 5.0 HO Auto, RHD

Offered for sale is my 1984 Pontiac Trans Am Recaro Limited Edition, a highly original and very rare Australian-based right-hand-drive example converted in 1989. This was my grandfathers car, which I inherited, and it has been a lightly used once every few months cruiser rather than a modified project or daily driver.

Showing just 48,787 miles (approx. 78,515 km), the car is powered by the factory 5.0L High Output 305 V8 and automatic transmission. It retains its original black paint, presents as a genuine survivor with excellent overall presence, factory Recaro interior, T-tops, original-style stereo, original trim, personalised plates, and a collection of included factory parts (AC Delco/GM) and memorabilia.

The car is unregistered and is being sold as-is. A new battery has just been fitted. The engine starts when fuel is introduced directly into the carburettor, and the car will require the mechanical fuel pump to be installed (supplied). Brakes are functional, but the car has not been road driven due to the fuel pump issue.

Body and paint present very well for a 42-year-old original car, there are some small paint chips, surface rust visible underneath the body and in the engine bay (nothing structural), some paint lifting on the bumpers (NOT indicative of the rest of the cars paintwork), a slight pushed-in area on the front left fender, and drivers door lock appears damaged (door still locks). Pop-up headlights, power windows, stereo, gauges, and rear hatch release work. Air conditioning likely needs regassing. T-tops lock correctly and undamaged.

Included in the sale are:

Personalised number plates (TRANAM)
Genuine replacement factory front bumper vents in original packaging
Original T-top storage bag
GM/AC Delco spare air filters, oil filters, spark plugs and assorted factory parts
Service manuals, dealership literature, Trans Am memorabilia, factory keys and key blanks, and more

This is an opportunity to buy a rare, highly original third-generation Trans Am with low indicated mileage, strong provenance, factory original character, and huge enthusiast appeal. It would suit a collector, Pontiac enthusiast, or originality-focused buyer looking for a genuine survivor that now needs recommissioning rather than rebuilding from scratch.

Interstate buyers are welcome, with transport to be arranged and paid for by the buyer. Inspections are welcome. Open to fair and reasonable offers.
