1974 HOLDEN TORANA LH

Now for sale a very early build Glacier White with Black Golf Ball trim LH Torana SL/R 5000 L34. Believed to be the ninth L34 to come off the production, this Torana may have been raced early in its life leading some to believe that the car was rebodied and re-engined. Running a genuine numbers matching HZ prefixed L34 engine, M21 and 3.08 ratio diff, the L34 is on display in our Sydney Showroom.

Developed by Holden, HDT and the genius of Harry Firth as a ready-made production race car, the L34 was powered by the trusty 308 V8 reworked by Repco Engine Developments, using much of the thinking from the then current Formula 5000 open-wheelers. It featured a strengthened block, a specific non-production crankshaft, upgraded rods and pistons, along with a special cam, roller rockers, unique heads and a host of other features. It ran a twin point and twin coil ignition, a high pressure fuel pump plus tubular steel extractors and a heavy duty radiator for improved cooling. There was also a High Output option available to certified racing teams which upgraded the L34 with additional go fast goodies, including upgraded camshaft and rockers, plus a Holley 780 carburettor.

The L34 utilised the M21 heavy duty gearbox and stronger back axle, uprated 11" disc brakes up front and 10" drums at the rear and bigger 14" steel Rally wheels. The bolt on flares were there to cover up the wider rubber and inside the centre console and boot mat were deleted to save weight.

It was on the race track that the L34 became a legend with racers such as Peter Brock and Brian Sampson dominating the 1974 Bathurst 1,000, winning the great race in 1975 taking out the 1974 Manufacturers Championship in the hands of Colin Bond and white washing the 1976 Bathurst 1000 for Holden with the L34 taking out the first 7 places!

The ninth L34 to come off the GMH production line, this Glacier White example was delivered to its first owner by Kevin Healy Motors, Redcliffe, QLD in September of 1974. It is believed that the Torana was raced early in its life and may have been rebodied during this period. According to Holden Historical Services Report, the L34 is running the matching numbers HZ engine that features an "R" at the end of the engine number meaning that GMH has replaced the original engine with a replacement block under warranty.  

The L34 features a  2009 repaint in 2 Pac Glacier White which still presents in very good condition. The interior features Black Golf Ball trim with original door cards, hood lining, dash, gauges and steering wheel with new carpets fitted. The L34 is showing 40,083 Klms on the clock. 

The Torana also comes with a Holden Historical Services Letter of Verification, owners manuals and two sets of keys.

The original L34 Rally wheels have been refurbished with 215/70x14 tyres on the front and 225/70x14 on the rear. In the boot is a spare and factory tools.

One of only 263 L34s produced, this homologation special Torana is certainly a rare and highly desirable Aussie muscle car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
