The Austin Healey 100, released in 1952, became an instant success with its stylish lines, sketched by Gerry Coker, these lines remained the styling basis for Big Healeys until production ceased in 1967. To many enthusiasts the original Austin Healey 100, powered by the 2660cc Austin 4 cylinder engine remains the purest of Donald Healey's creations.
This 1954 factory right hand drive BN1 is finished in gleaming Red, and has large eye appeal, with its lovely Brightwork featuring 72 spoke chrome wire wheels and Lucas driving lamps, with contrasting Black vinyl interior, highlighted by a period correct 15 wood rim Moto-Lita steering wheel and the addition of map and courtesy lamps. The weather equipment consists of a black vinyl tonneau cover, soft top and side screens with storage bag, all in Black vinyl.
The Healey is largely mechanically standard with small under bonnet improvements consisting of an alloy script rocker cover and Texas Kooler fan. In addition, a new aluminium fuel tank has been fitted. The exterior benefits from a rear indicator conversion in place of the original reflectors as well as mesh guards over the head and driving lamps.
The BN1 drives well delivering good period performance with its long stroke 4 cylinder engine coupled to the 3 speed all synchromesh gearbox with overdrive providing excellent, long-legged cruising ability and flexibility. The Healey is equally at home cruising the open road or winding its way through the hills and will produce an ear to ear grin.
