Automotive wins in the King’s Birthday honours

Automotive has not been forgotten in the annual honours given out on the King’s Birthday weekend  by government house.

While the public service, philanthropy, medicine and science along with community services tend to take centre stage for the honours, there are also a scattering of outstanding achievers in a range of industries and  professions  who the days shine a light on.

Dr Irene Ioannakis, a prominent member of the MTA  WA was made a member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to the business sector in the field of vocational education and training

Dr Ioannakis is a governing council member at the North Metropolitan TAFE and an  Independent Member of the TAFE International WA Executive, since 2021.

Before this she has held major roles on the Australian Skills Quality Authority  and has played a key role in leading the training and supply of skilled workers to the automotive sector.

Long term FCAI member David Blackhall also received the Medal of the order of Australia, For service to the automotive industry.

He has been the Non-Executive Chair, since 2021 of the Australian Automotive Dealer Association where he was also CEO from 2016-2019.

He has been vice-president and a special advisor Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries where he has been a Life Member since 2015.

Blackhall has more than 50 years in the automotive industry including major roles with Ford Australia and Jaguar Land Rover.

Well-known  community member Peter Stevens was also inducted into the Medal of the Order of Australia.

Former owner of Peter Stevens Motorworld in Ballarat, he was also president of the national dealer council for Nissan.

During this time, he has also assiduously pursued community causes like Male Bag, The Kids Foundation and Lions club along with a lifetime of support for Grampians Heath and has been a significant contributor to the Ballarat community for which he was honoured on the weekend.
