Australasia’s independent and trusted voice on vehicle safety, ANCAP Safety, has announced the appointment of Ms Carla Hoorweg as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Hoorweg will join ANCAP following a successful 20-year career across the financial services, legal and political sectors where she has specialised in policy development, advocacy and regulatory change, government relations, business management and strategy.

Announcing the appointment, ANCAP Chairman Andy Cornish said: “Carla will be an invaluable asset to ANCAP, its members, stakeholders and the broader community. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise in corporate strategy, policy and product development which will help drive the strategic focus of the organisation and strengthen relationships with our broad range of stakeholders, mobility providers and the automotive industry.”

“Carla was selected through a competitive recruitment process with a strong and varied field of candidates. Her career achievements and collaborative leadership style are impressive, and we look forward to seeing her skills translate to further improvements in vehicle safety across Australia and New Zealand,” Cornish added.

Remarking on her appointment Ms Hoorweg said: “I am delighted to be joining such an effective and trusted organisation. I have watched ANCAP grow and gain traction with consumers and the industry, and I am excited to take the organisation into its next phase of evolution. ANCAP plays a crucial role in influencing and encouraging the uptake of the latest safety features and technologies, and its importance in reducing road trauma cannot be overstated.”

Ms Hoorweg, who is also a qualified solicitor, takes over from former Chief Executive, James Goodwin, who left the role in May, with James Hurnall filling the role of Interim Chief Executive since then. “I would like to thank James Hurnall for his leadership as we undertook the search for a permanent replacement,” said Cornish.

Ms Hoorweg will commence as Chief Executive Officer in December 2020.
