Australia’s lead automotive industry bodies are hosting an online forum aimed at generating more responses to the critical Code of Conduct between repairs and insurers, in its last week of feedback.
The Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) and the Australian Motor Body Repairers Association (AMBRA) will host the forum on the Motor Vehicle Insurance and Repair Industry (MVIRI) Code of Conduct on Wednesday June 18 at 5.45 AEST.
Participants can join by online via Teams after registering below.
Why it matters
“This forum provides a valuable opportunity for business owners, tradespeople, and industry stakeholders to actively participate in the ongoing review of the MVIRI Code,” it said in a release.
“Your insights and experiences are essential to ensuring the Code reflects the real-world needs of the collision repair industry.”
More industry feedback needed
Earlier this year the Code Administration Committee extended the feedback period until June 23 in an effort to generate greater feedback from the industry.
The MTAA in May even took the step of releasing a compilation of responses from its forums in May with the aim of advocating for further reform.
It argued the Code fell short in addressing the power imbalance between larger insurers and independent repairers.

The CAC also released a list of simplified questions in an effort for repairers to focus on some of the key possibilities of the Code.
Questions to think about:
The explanatory note released by the CAC in February also offered these three thought-provoking questions in key areas to help frame industry feedback.
- Dispute timeframes: How long should be allowed for the insurer-repairer to resolve a dispute before it is allowed to proceed to expert adjudication or mediation?
- Adjudicators: What should the appropriate skill sets, experience and attributes of an adjudicator be?
- Sanctions: What should Code sanctions be and/or how much should they be for insurers and repairers?
